I’ve been fascinated by collage for a long time: how you can build a entire world from images, shapes, and colors – a world with its own rules, where the logic and dimensions of so-called reality are playfully bent. That’s exactly what makes collages feel like a kind of visual magic.
Artists like Hannah Höch, a pioneer of Dada photomontage, used the medium to rethink existing images and break conventional forms.* This playful, subversive energy is also present in the little worlds you see here: a mix of photographs, drawings, patterns, textures – and sometimes a touch of magic.
